    % Power/RPM/MP/Alt/Fuel Flow for Cruisair

Has anybody got or made their own chart of rpm vs % power / altitude/ Manifold Pressure/ fuel flow for the franklin 150 in the cruisair ? The manual says the sweet spot is 2435 rpm with the F-200 prop. Dan T thinks this = 75% power at ~ 3000 ft. In my local flying / training mode I was...

    cylinder break in

I guess its almost time to think about what method to use for breaking in a couple of overhauled cylinders. Seems like the conventional wisdom used to be not to drivev at a constant speed, idea being ..Im guessing, that when you back off on the throttle more oil moves up to or past the rings...

2 Cruisairs with 0360's for sale now

Everybody talks about wanting a "modern" Lycoming in their cruisair. Well there are TWO of them for sale in the fly market right now. Clearly it far more practical to buy one converted "way back when" than to try to do it in the current faa climate. If I could afford to have a plane at...

Blue Skying the Franklin Engine's Future

A few idea have been rattling around in my head. 1. The Franklin was Certified to burn No Lead Fuel. Which I read is where avgas is headed, fast. 2. The Franklin is a modern "over square" design. Bore bigger than stroke. 3. Metalurgy and Manufacturing tolerances have come a long way since...

Visit Santa Paula - Sleep Better

Boy, nothing has done more for my peace of mind than spending a few days watching Dan Torrey go over my Cruisair with a fine tooth comb. Wings: clean bill of health Alilerons: nothing to worry about Landing Gear: serviced AD's : been doing some that only applied to older airplanes ! Dan...

    Dealing with cracking wing paint.

My plane has had problems with the wing paint cracking for some time. I did some investigating, wanting to make sure it wasn't some kind of structural problem. 0 My logs indicate the wings were painted in 1965 with a black non-bleeding primer and Dupont Dulux over the original red dope and...

How to "Sell" an airplane on Barnstormers.

The following is a series of e-mail exchanges between an obviously bogus "buyer" and myself. No matter how hard I parody his pidgin English, he tries relentlessly to engage me in one scam after another. The dumbest is when he tries to get ME to fill out a Credit Application, for my OWN...

    Oil Analysis - ?? Meaning ?

Got the results of the first oil analysis for my franklin 150. Company had no "normal" reference values to compare my numbers to. And of course I did it to establish base line values. Their comments indicate that the measured level of IRON at 158.6 ppm " appears high". after 23 hours on the...

Generator- Starter Oil Leaks - Franklin.

I suspect that oil is leaking around the shafts of my starter and generator. The paper gasket between the starter and acc. case is suspect also of course. If I go to the trouble to finesse the starter out.. seems like I look at the shaft seal and brushes/ commutator at the same time. :?:

Replacing Cruisair Gear Bolts - Gear Leg "Spanner "?

I resolved to shotgun R&R the 10 hinge/scissor bolts in my cruisair main gear legs, after hearing what happened to the "flying flag". I remember reading a nice cruisemaster personal website, where this is discussed, and mention was made there that one of the bolts requires something a little...

wierd plate inside fuselage, ahead of tail wheel ?

There is a weird rectangular aluminum plate attached to the longerons inside the fuselage, ahead of the tailwheel. It is wearing it's way through the fabric .. well ok maybe somebody dragged the fuse through a ditch.. I don't know. anyway.. I have to patch the fabric, and I want the damn...

Franklin Cabin/Carb Heat - Fire Safety Hot Foot Conundrum

I just discovered that the heat muff which supplies cabin heat ( pilot side control- which I think is rear seat heat) also supplies Carb Heat. A diverter valve ( flap) selects fresh air, or heated air for the Carburetor Intake. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the cabin heat tube is also...

    Cruisair Rudder Bellcranks ?

Annual time again. After getting a look at the bad rudder bellcranks that came out of Kent Tarver's Bellanca, I am motivated to disconnect mine and take a Close Look them. If NFG... can they be gotten from AA in Minnie Sota ? Kent got some for his cruismaster from them.. but don't know if they...

    Prop Mounting "Sweet Spot" ???

Several people including some A&I's have mentioned that there can be a preferred "sweet spot" ( my phrase) when mounting a propeller, which will tend to minimize or neutralize vibration. Nothing in the archives I can find. Alan who sold me my Cruisair suggested maybe there was a BC Contact...
