Cleveland brakes and wheels conversion for 14-13-2

After talking with my AI, I find I can't simply replace the expander brakes with Clevelands claiming unavailability of original parts. He says I would have to remove them if I ever sold the bird. Alexandria Air does the Cleveland conversion for the 14-19 Cruisemaster, but according to the...

My wife's expression when I told her how much the Aerothane

Margaret's expression when I told her how much the Aerothane was gonna' cost (one of these links ought to work): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v41/cruisair/Margaret.jpg <http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v41/cruisair/Margaret.jpg> "img...

Cruisair Headliner question/ Landing Gear question

I almost have my new headliner installed. My question is how does it fit up around the trim wheel box and does it go around the handholds or turn and go up and over :?: Landing Gear: It sure would look great to have it powder-coated instead of painted, but I'm worried the heat from the...

    Cruisair Wingtip Strobe info needed

I'm running into some flak about installing Whelen wingtip strobes on my 14-13-2. Even showing it's been done on a 14-19 isn't helping. Apparently the FAA wants to see someone has done it successfully on the 14-13 series Bellanca. Last time I checked they were nearly identical airframes. I can't...

    Who rebuilds instruments?

It's almost time for instrument servicing! :D I need my AH and DG rebuilt. The DG works but is a little noisy, The AH has a permanent 30 deg. bank- useless. I also have a WWII- era 24 hr. clock that I'd love to re-use. It needs repair too, but I have no idea who to send it to. No idea about...

    What's wrong with me anyway?

Here I have my very own AIRPLANE! I have a lovely, supportive wife! My health's good, and I'm not hungry so why isn't rebuilding NC74392 any fun right now? I just spent 2 hours trying to make a brass jumper bar for my master switch- something that should have taken about 30 seconds :? Wires...

    Wiring KX17B and Narco XPDR

Well I goofed. When I removed the chassis from the old panel I didn't label the wires coming out of the radios. I have two wires spliced together onto one ring lug for the KX170B NAV/COM and one wire by itself. The NARCO transponder has two individual wires with ring lugs. Now- am I right in...

    Windscreen "Uni-brow"

I see old Cruisair pictures all the time with what appears to be a sunshade over the top of the windshield. Was this just doped-on fabric or what? Seems like this would be a neat feature to emulate in a ground-up restoration. It would certainly hide the front of my headliner job

    Southeastern Bellanca Fly-In cancelled

Due to lack of interest, I guess I won't host a fly-in this April. Unofficially, if anyone needs a place to "overnight" on the way to Sun N Fun, drop me a line. I can provide transportation to/from the airport and even a place to stay if you'd like. :D

    Well Gee Randy

That would make it too simple  So basically I'm worrying about nothing. I'd be a little upset if I were flying along and the fabric on top of the fuselage started ballooning off. Might mess up my hair (and pants)

How do I lace the fuselage top?

Okay you experts- :D If I put the headliner in before I cover the fuselage I can't lace the top of the fuselage on the stringer. If I cover and lace the fuselage before I add the headliner, I can't put the headliner in right as far as I can tell. Is there some technique for lacing the fuselage...

    Broke my fuel gauge

Okay- I managed to break the winding on the back of my Cruisair's fuel gauge. Anyone have suggestions for replacing this with a modern gauge :?: I'd like to make it a dual gauge to eliminate the gauge's tank selector switch.

    Need Cruisair panel info

After measuring my Cruisair's "aftermarket" panel, it looks like its 38 inches wide. Can anyone tell me the original panel depth :?: Just guessing it looks like about 12 inches :? Anyway, I sure could use a little info on this. I cut my homemade panel off at the bottom to 13 5/8 inches and it...

    Covering Cruisair wings?

Okay- I have received some peculiar advice about wrapping the Poly-Fibre around my wings and want to know if anyone else has heard of this... My source says the factory covered the Cruisair wings diagonally starting at the wing root and wrapping the fabric around kind of like a candy cane if...

What do you consider minimal VFR instrumentation?

I would think (for cross country flying): Altimeter Compass Airspeed T&B RPM Manifold pres Oil temp and pres Fuel Gauge Ammeter One good radio Mode C XPDR A DG would be nice, but do you REALLY need it?

Pros and Cons of a leading edge landing light

Much as I'd like to install a wing-mounted landing light, I've heard this can be bad for a wooden wing aircraft due to leaks if flying through rain. :( Right now my landing light is on the gear leg- pretty useless for "see and avoid" night flying. What about a cowl-mounted light a la Cessna :?:

    Aluminum Forming

Around the doorway on my Cruisair there's several pieces of aluminum around the rim. Unfortunately they've seen better days. Does anyone have any advice for forming new ones :?: I can do the straight sections just fine, but the curved pieces have me stumped :? Spent all day yesterday...

    The Great Southeastern Fly-in

I believe our illustrious president Robert is going to put a notice in the newsletter, but I thought I'd bounce this idea off the forum folks specifically. I work on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL. Specifically at Marshall Space Flight Center (NASA). FYI, Atlanta Sectional/ north Alabama. We...

Any news on the Pensacola Naval Air Museum?

I heard they lost quite a few historic aircraft due to Hurricane Ivan, but have no idea how bad it is. For instance, they have the NC-4 Flying Boat there- definitely a rare bird! It's gonna break my heart if all those wonderful aircraft are no more

    What is it?

:? There's a chromed disc mounted just aft of the pilot's seat in front of the left rear window. It has a removable disc twist-locked onto it. It appears to either be a removable mirror (missing) or maybe a place where the Bellanca Logo or something was mounted. Any ideas out there :?: It...
