Never mind, the message was there in the front...

Hello town...
First I apologize, I know that the answer is somewhere in the archives.
I can't find it... :-(

Second, the part number that I got from the parts manual got me an O-ring that I can barely slide over my thumb.
Not good...

I have a company here in Chattanooga that carries every hydraulic O-ring model in the planet, but I can't find a part number that they can use.
Does anybody know a 'generic' part number for the O-rings inside the gear legs of the 14-13?
Thanks!

When I was working on my 14-13 I came across data listing the Landing gear oring for the new style as: AN6227-25 this would be the same as -220. My gear had the leather packing not the oring so I didn't get to find out if it really was.
If you measure the gland we could tell what oring will fit.

In the 14-13 and 14-13-2, there is no "O" ring in any part of the landing gear.
The 14-13-3 and the 14-19 series.....YES. For those folks, go to the Russell Williams site for details on
the later system.

In trying to locate something else, I ran across my box of seals and O-rings for my Cruisair. When I removed my cup seals, they were as hard as rocks, and so brittle that most of them broke. I got a part number from this forum (I think???) and ordered from MSC INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY CO.100 MSC Drive, Jonestown PA 17038. They are called BUNA-N U- CUPS Part # MSC-NU6226-30-A. The bag doesnt show the A at the end of the part number, but the packing slip does. If I remember correctly the there were 5 seals in each gear-leg, but the new seals were thicker and I could only get 4 into the same space. As far as the O-rings go, Dan is very correct in that the 14-13-2 did not come with O-rings, but some have had a groove turned in the bottom bushing, and installed O-rings. It is a belts and braces sort of thing, but as leaky as most Cruisair gear is, it is a great idea. The O-ring from Aircraft Spruce is # AN6227B-30. It changed my gear from leaking out almost as fast as I could put it in, to one dry leg, and the other just weeping a little. I hope these numbers help someone. _____Grant.

I have never had problems getting the correct Chevron Packings, as they are called, at a local hydraulic manufacturing and supply house. I have shipped out several sets to members over the years.
I put an "O" ring groove in my overlength lower bushing. I cannot tell if it has helped or not. I think what
has helped is the addition of "Granville Strut Seal" to the oil in my struts. I get the kit for the Cherokee and divide it up between the mains with a dash for the tail strut.
Also, I think it is a wise idea to wipe down the exposed part of the struts with a clean oily rag after flying.
This removes the dust and dirt and also protects against further corrosion.
