I'm new to your group and I have a question about the spar ad. I asked this question on the yahoogroup for citabrias so forgive me if you've seen it. What airplanes, if any, are more prone to require a spar replacement? I understand that a lightly used airplane kept in a dry hanger probably won't. I understand that the airplane I want to buy may never need one or that it may need one at the next annual. Is anyone keeping records of airplanes that have had the spar replaced? What model, total time, accident history, etc.
I called a mechanic about the plane I'm buying. He has a champ in the shop that the new owner has had for less than a year. It failed the spar inspection. From what I've seen, the odds of a decathalon used for acro are greater than a 7ECA used for sightseeing but its a gamble. The plane I'm considering has had two spar inspections and passed both times. The last inspection turned up some marks on the spar. After additional inspection holes were added, the marks turned out not to be cracks.
Thanks
Dave
