1968 fuel tanks

I have a '68 7KCAB and have had problems with weeping fuel tanks which wear along the dimples. I know this is a common problem. Unfortunately, my aircraft is a 1968 and American Champion does not make new tanks for this age of aircraft. Does anyone know where I could get new, PMAd fuel tanks made. I am told that I can have them made because they are no longer in production, but I hon't know where to go. Also, how hard is it to change the '68 wings for , say, 75 wings which would take the now tanks made by American champion? I want to stay with wood spars, so I don't want the metal wing. Thanks, Colette

FAR 21.303 allows you, as owner or operator of your airplane, to make your own parts. Your contribution to the manufacture can be as simple as supplying the drawings or materials for the parts, or the old part to copy. Therefore, any good welding and fabrication shop can make tanks for your airplane. Many A&P, IA's don't know this rule.

I'm pretty sure (and if wrong somebody will correct me) that ACA doesn't sell any fuel tanks for a wood spar wing, regardless of vintage.

Good luck!

We only have tooling for the 1974 and up Clam Shell style.
Which can be retro-fitted to your wing BTW. You lose 3 gallons, but the clam shell is many times more durable.
