I have been told by the factory that there are no service manuals for this model year. If so what are we and the mechanics using?

Dear Terry:
There are no substantial changes in the airplane until the metal spar wing c.1990. Our B20-551 Citabria Service Manual is complete, with a supplement for some of the earlier systems. You will find this on page 3 of our Publication Catalog.

Yeah, you could use the 1974 and up manual. Just make sure you keep an eye out for the little things that might have changed.
Off the top of my head, you have different exhaust, cowling and boot cowl....for example. So when it says to remove the belly pan....you don't have one! hehe
So, you'll have to interpret a few things with common sense.
