1979 8KCAB Pilot Side Window

Does anyone have any advice on where I can get a replacement window and frame for a 1979 Decathalon? My wife and I were taking pictures today of fall foilage with the pilot window open (70 KNTS) when suddenly a hinge broke and the entire window assembly departed the aircraft. We were over very desolate terrain and the window is gone forever. It gouged a hole in the fuselage as well so, needless to say, it was not a good day. Thank God it didn't hit the tail. Any ideas other than the factory?

Dear Mark:

No one else would make that assembly but American Champion 800-223-9381. If you don't want new, you might try one of the salvage outfits like White Industries 800-821-7733. Also, if you are not in a hurry, submit a Wanted ad in the Fly Market, a benefit free to Club members.

Regards,

Thank you Robert,

I will check with ACA tomorrow. I dread to hear what this is going to cost. No more windows open for me.

Hi, if it is the left swing up window, Wag-Aero shows it as part number for the frame 71318 at $183.75 and the window as M-220-105 for clear at $89.25 for clear, less for green or gray (these are from a summer 2007 catalog as I could not find a current catalog). You might check with them at 1-800-558-6868 or http://www.wagaero.com. Hope this helps. Tim

Thank you so much Gentlemen. I contacted Wag and they did not have it in stock. The entire assembly was $670.00 from them and a new assembly from the factory was $825.00 and they had it in stock so I just went ahead and got it from the factory. No more flying with the window open for me. Thanks again.

One difference...we dont use fiberglass on the left side window anymore. Its worked out very well.

Did you have the little scissors lock installed so that it only opens like 2-3" ?
Its pretty crutial on a 8KCAB because of the extra speed.
