79 7GCBC Hooker Harness

I just got a 79 -7GCBC and wanted to add a Hooker Harness. I was sent some parts that need to be welded to the frame from AC. My A&P was afraid to weld next to the fabric. He said it was very dangerous and that I should wait till it is time to recover. Is there any way to protect the fabric while welding or is there another way to secure the Hooker Harness?
 
I think Hooker can instruct you as to how to put a strap around the fuselage tubing with no welding, give them a call.

I called Hooker and it is as you say. They actually have two harnesses. One that attaches with a strap and one that attaches to the welded braces. The welded brace is the best but it can only be installed when there is no covering on the plane.
 
Drew, I have a set of Hookers for a Citabria that fit without welding. was going to fit them, never got round to it, email or pm if you are interested.
