7ACA

Just bought a '72 Bellanca Champ 7ACA with a overhauled Franklin 60hp, wanting to know if there are any others still out there flying.

Wow that is an odd ball. I remember when they came out with it. I would love to hear more about it: is it airworthy? who did the overhaul? have you flown it? how does it perform? etc. etc.
I would like to see pictures of the aircraft and the engine uncowled.
I just like old odd stuff. wbecker319@hotmail.com

A local pilot has one and has it up for sale. The engine was overhauled by Franklin expert Greg Lucas a few years ago; he also converted it to the electrical system version. Runs great, funny sounding, but poor performance. With the cowl door open, it looks like there is no engine in it, it is far forward. In summer, it is a one-seat airplane. I am glad that he decided to keep the Franklin as there are few left unconverted. Most run the A-65/75 engines.

Now I'm needing a prop for this aircraft, it has a Sensenich 80Gm 32.
Any help would be appreciated!
Rick

You might call Sensenich and see what a new one would cost. I had them make me a prop for my 65hp Franklin engine Taylorcraft years ago.

I did $2370 & 6 weeks lead time. Was hoping could find a used one ,but I know the chances are slim.
Thanks

I use the "heatshield" aluminum-looking overhead panel of an old Citabria kit from Kennon. When not too hot, I just throw it in the baggage area. Very light and weighs next to nothing. Still fits well. Note: If you have a portable GPS unit, you may need to get an external antenna; the panel seems to block GPS signals.

Hello - wondering if you still have the Champ? I have just purchased one in Australia - 1971 with the original Franklin engine and would love to know how many more are out there?

Yes I do, had a prop tip separate few years ago. Finally could afford a new prop a few months ago, which I also had to replace lord engine mounts & repair broken alternator bracket. I had flown it about 40 hours before that happened & have flown about 5 hours since got back airworthy.
