7ECA Carburetor Airbox replacement

Hello,

I'm new to the forums. I'd be most appreciative of any guidance I could get in finding a suitable replacement for the airbox on a 1965 7ECA (0-200 engine). It was removed to allow for replacement of a failed vacuum pump. My A&P has tried several part vendors without success. It seems the one that was in place is not a standard part.

Thank you kindly.

Is it complete junk, or can it be repaired? The box on mine was worn out on the side where the arm works. The steel air flow blade had actually cut through the aluminum side.

I, under the supervision of my A & P, removed the side, made a new one and replaced it. Working fine now.

Have you called ACA at 800-223-9381? The new 7EC Champ they build has the O200-D engine and maybe it uses the same carb heat box.
They are very good to deal with, and prices are reasonable.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, it's completely fallen apart.

We've contacted ACA, Wag-Aero, and Univair. Unfortunately, the part number doesn't match any part in their inventory. We're going to call ACA again and see if we they can be a little more helpful...

If you are still looking for a carb air box solution, read Advisory Circular No: 23-27 "Parts and Material Substitution for Vintage Aircraft". Maybe you could substitute an air box for a different aircraft?
As always please let us all know what you did to solve this, it helps us all to learn.

The O-200D uses a different airbox. Its not hugely different, and might be close enough.

That said, somewhere is a O-200 installation and the real part number of the airbox. We'd have to dig to find it.
Once its found, its likely still not on a shelf anywhere. It could possibly be fabbed though.

I have the Champion in-cowl drawings for the O-200 powered Citabria. The part number for that airbox is 4-1377 - Carburetor Air Scoop.
