7eca motor upgrade

Does anyone know if one can upgrade a 66 7eca to a 150 horse engine when I overhaul? Is it necessary to have an stc since the other series citabrias use the o320? The cost for the o235 is nearly identical to the o320. Thanks.
 
HI, looking at the TCDS the only engines I see approved for the 7ECA are the Cont 0-200, Lycoming 0-235-C1, 0-235-C2C and the 0-235-K2C. I see 7ECA's for sale in fact there's one on e bay right now with 0-320's so there must be a STC to install the engine. You could also check with ACA they may have the answer. Hope this helps.
 
So if I'm looking at a 7ECA with a 115HP and would like to swap it for a 150 at overhaul I should be able to get a field approval? Seems lately the FAA has been very hesitant to make Field Approvals lately. Are you saying that it is common for this type of conversion?

Also is there any structural difference between the 7ECA and the 7KCAB?
