Hello, I'm fairly new to this site, and own and fly a Aeronca 7AC, if the new pilot bill of rights passes (read no medical) I am thinking of getting a Bellanca citabria 7ECA, is a 7ECA the same as a 7GCAA except with a smaller engine? or are there other differences? thanks, jack

Same exact airplane. With the smaller engines, the battery is mounted on the firewall, whereas the O-320 engined ones are in the back behind the baggage compartment. 150 hp is very nice if you need better climb or do aerobatics, but very little more cruise speed.

Here's hoping we lose that stupid medical.

I would like to ask for advice about the steps to re-power my 1974 7ECA O-235 with a 150 horse O-320, including how to go about finding a good engine. I have reviewed the 337s from an airplane that was recently for sale in Barnstormers that was re-powered in this way. I need more umph to get out of my home airstrip and the plane I have is in such good shape that I'm inclined to go this route rather than look for a GCAA. Any help would be appreciated.

I would talk to American Champion. There is an STC or two, but I'll bet they can provide some drawings that would document all the changes. Since both airplanes are on the same type certificate, with those drawings you can do the change without an STC.
