Folks:

I am new to the club and forum. I have an interest in the 7GC Champ. I have tried goggling it for information but all I get is really sketcy information. Where can I find out about the history of the GC design, numbers produced as well as a hand book covering the model or at least some basic pilot information such as V speeds, take off and landing performance and weight and balance envelops. Really any information from history up the specs on the airplane would be most helpful.

Many thanks.

Walter

Walter:

Get a copy of B-651 High-Wing Plane Report from the Publication Catalog at https://bellanca-championclub.com/PubOrderHW.html. You will also find the B-602 Parts Manual and B-661 Service Letter Collection there.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Hi Bob:

Many thanks for the response. I will order one tonight. I recently went in halvers with another fellow and we bought a really nice 7GC. We are really hungry for any and all information on the bird. Everything from performance to its history. In addition, it has some very unusual festures that we need some help in explaining. First, it has an unusual two part instrument panel. The top part which almost looks like an afterthought has two small guages on its left side -- the oil temp and pressure. The center is occupied with the rate of climb and the altimeter. The right side contains a wind up clock and an exhaust temp gauge. The main panel contains an airspeed indicator and a magnetic compass on the left. Towards the center left side of the main panel is what appears to be a factory blank cover over a hole that appears to be the size of a DG. That cover appears to be factory original. The radios are in the center and the tach and another blank are located on the right side. The door has what again appears to be a factory installed quick release hinge mechanism. It is also placarded for aerobatics. The local hangar chatter tells us that only a handful of the 7GC's were built and that they were a transition type aircraft that made the connection from traditional Champ to Citabria. So what is it? A Citabria want-a-be or an Champ on steriods? I had a little over 5 hours in an a friend's AC before buying the GC, and oh, what a difference the 135 Lycoming makes.

Are there any segregated threads on the GC on this web site or any simple way to hunt and identify 7GC information without reading every post. Let me know and many thanks again for all of your assistance.

Regards,

Walter

Hi Bob:

I recieved the High Wing Report and found it to be a great help. I have read several of the articles and it certainly gives a good picture on several of the models. However, I really couldn't find too much on the 7GC. The double instrument panel was highlighted on the tricycle Champ as was the clear plastic throttle knobs. Both features are also on the 7GC. Again any information on this model Champ would be most helpful.

Many thanks.

Walter

I've been flying a 7HC around for the past 8 years and 1500 hours. It is my understanding that it is only different from the 7GC due to a nose wheel and a yoke in the front. Both of these have been converted on mine. I was never able to find a flight manual for it. I actually went out and determined the V speeds on mine through flight testing.

Vx = 50mph
Vy = 60mph
Best glide = 60mph
Best climb rate at gross (1650) = 1600fpm
Fuel burn leaned at 2400rpm = 6.0 gph

If you look at the Type Certificate (available at http://www.faa.gov) you'll find the weight and balance limitations and can plot them on graph paper to make your own envelope.

Best of luck
Drew
