Thanks very much for the advice re 7GCBC v 7KCAB.
I now have a deposit down on a 7KCAB and I am having a mechanic I have used on various other aircraft over the years do the pre-buy. He is experienced in Lycoming engines and wood & fabric a/c generally, but not the Citabria specifically. Are there items specific to the Citabria he should be particularly on the lookout for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated./Jim

Hi Jim,

These are really simple aircraft so if your mechanic knows fabric be sure that all AD's are complied with. The inboard landing gear bolts, according to the service manual, need to be replaced every 500 hrs, they run around 40.00 per side, bolt washers and nut.You do have to cut two small holes to replace them. Thats about all I can think of at the present time. You might want to talk to a KCAB owner to see if there's anything on the fuel inject model that might be of importance to look at. Also if the owner has a service manual it has an inspection checklist which would help probably. Hope this helps.

If I could pick two main things to look at it would be the fabric/paint and the wing spars/rib attachments. These are the places that can haunt you most. I hope the wings have aluminum spars, if so your in good shape. Damage history can greatly effect both of these areas.
