8:50 x 6:00 0n GCBC need STC

I have a 1998 GCBC with the stock 6:00 x 6 tires. I would like to switch to the larger 8:50 x 6;00 tires. I have explored STC's by Gaurdian & Northland but neither one is for the newer Citabrias, they are for the older drum brake models. I also have talked to the factory, but their STC is only for the aluminum gear models, mine is steel. I know there are a lot of GCBC's & GCAA's out there with steel gear & disc brakes that have the 8:50 x 6:00 tires on them.

Is the only way to do it with a FAA field approval? Is that what eveyone is doing? :?:
 
I have a 1972 7GCBC with steel gear, disk breaks (single puck) and 8.50's
I do have an STC for the larger tires.
I will not be home for another week and a half or I would get you the STC info.
 
The Gaurdian STC number SA3019WE is for 7gcbc and 3 other models produced under TCDS# A-759. All these 7 series models produced up to date are produced under A-759. Therefore this qualifies your 1998 7gcbc for 8.50 x 6 tires. Check with your IA and if he is doubt have him ask his faa guy.
