8KCAB Dual Exhaust vs Single

Does anyone have any idea when the 8KCAB, what yr, went to a single exhaust system on the r side? I have a '72 7KCAB and a '72 8KCAB and they both have the same bottom cowl and dual exhaust. Also my 8KCAB is a 150 CS and it seems that this was a bastard configuration for the CS since the prop gov is mounted on the rear, not front, of the engine. Any ideas when this was switched to the front??

Thanks Erik

The cowling and exhaust went through an overhaul in 1973 to be on the 1974 airplanes. This is when they converted to the Elano exhaust. Dawley purchased this exact same tooling and is what is used today. The Cowling/Exhaust/Bootcowl/Belly Pan change is the most noticable change to the '74 and ups. Citabrias (not Decathlons) got a new fuel tank design that has a much better service record (though it cost 4 gallons of usable fuel). There is your 1974 Champ trivia for the day......

A prop governor in the back is not a red headed step child at all. It certainly was tougher to manufacture things to accomodate it, like recesses in the firewall and limited choices of governors. The governor was not moved to the front until 1995, and no 150HP Constant Speed Decathlons were produced after 1980. So, if you have a 150 CS....its got the governor in the back. Woodward was recently bought out, but they will still make that model governor.
