8KCAB Landing Gear

Hello,

I have a 1973 8KCAB Decathlon CS, great airplane!

The main landing gear is starting to look tired... I know I can purchase a new set of landing gear from ACA, but shipping and costs are quite a bit more than I can afford at this time.

I read in an earlier post about a fellow who refurbishes main landing gear, but the phone number in the post leads me to someone else completely..

His name is Jim Hayton, of North Sound Aviation
30578 Wallberg, Rd.
Sedro Wolley, WA. 98284
360-661-1148

It would be great if I could get in contact with this person, as the aircraft is based in Washington State. Does anyone have the correct phone number for Jim Hayton?

Any other suggestions on a person who performs this type of work would be greatly appreciated.

Just a quick note about refurbishing gear.

That gear has a rather specific heat treat that is somewhat atypical. If you bend the gear lag back into a shape it needs to be annealed and then run through the process again. If you do not, you will cause localized embrittlement and can easy break a gear leg.

Someone who does a refurb correctly will not be too cheap since he will be redoing the heat treat and shot peen.

As for how 'splayed' a gear leg can be...well its really a matter of preference. There is no limit on how droopy one wing can be at the moment.

Yes, I understand that proper heat treating and annealing is an essential portion of the process. Thank you for bringing it up.

I finally managed to contact Jim Hayton, he is now semi- retired and asked me to post his new phone number on the site, it is:

360-661-3302.

Thanks.
