i am in the process of doing a full restore on a 1979 decathlon and planing on making it a super decathlon with a new AEIO-360-H1B engine ( if i can even find one around) and doing the metal spar wings upgrade from the factory.
Has anyone done this full restore and modification?
Anyone an expert and care to be available for advice and bounce stuff off of.
I am sure Jerry will get sick of hearing from me.

Thanks
Roger

I am no expert. I'm getting ready to do a full resto on my '73 KCAB. We put preservative oil in it the other day and should be taking the wings off this weekend. email me at doug_snead@yahoo.com and we can bounce some ideas back and forth.

I rebuilt my '79 8KCAB about 4 years ago - wood spar and 150 hp engine retained.
Local company here rebuilding theirs with new factory wings (one finished already); the second has a new fuselage truss as well.
Friend just finished rebuilding his '78 8KCAB C/S with new wings and upgrade to a Super D. I don't have all the details offhand but there was some pain. Shouldn't be too bad doing it yourself but when you're paying people who haven't done it before it can get exxy.

Once you crack the shell on the fuselage, some worms will come out. Just be braced for impact. :)

Other than that, many people have rebuilt. Assuming you are doing the restore, its a nice way to get intimate with your airplane wherein your knowledge of it will add safety to your operation and understanding of its behavior. Its not like you can have that kind of connection with your car anymore; too many 'black boxes'. I don't know if as many people want to do it a second time without pay though.
