ADS-B FAA Rebate

In case anyone hasn't heard yet, the FAA is going to give a $500 rebate for the first 20,000 who install ADS-B After the program stars in the fall. http://www.faa.gov/nextgen/equipadsb/rebate/
Maybe we could get a discussion going about the many options.
I have been checking them out, many to choose, I see about 9 different systems that would work on our aircraft.

Just an aside, they are offering the rebate because of the absolutely molasses pace of installation of ads-b. 500 dollars may seem like a lot of money now, and it is great if you want to equip with ads-b for other reasons.
However, when they first mandated the ads-b installation everyone warned to equip now and beat the lines at the shop in 2019! And some were dismissed for saying to wait for the technology to catch up and cost to come down. Ads-b is now roughly 60% of the cost when it was first announced and avionics shops are still not on a 2 year wait.

Personally, I am going to install ads-b out in 2019. That is when every manufacturer is going to be running specials, and the cost will have hit the lowest point. If the cost goes down just another 20% in 3 years, it will be worth far more than 500 dollars.

But if you are already planning on installing ads-b this fall, then by all means, milk the FAA for all they are worth!

(Just my 2 cents, which can be used towards any approved ADS-B out system)

You can install out for $1995 right now. Rebate makes it $1500, I personally think that is going to be very hard to beat that in 3 years, (and no rebate). There are others now for under $3000, $2500 after rebate.
We all must decide what and when, I'm just trying to help get info out so people can make informed decisions.

By the way I should have mentioned 1 system (NavWorks) now has out and in for $2735 before rebate.

I am not going to install ADS-B in or out.

Where I fly I don't need it and spending upwards of 10% of the value of my airplane is not something that I would do lightly.

If and when I decide to sell, the penalty for not having it will not be a factor to me.

Ron,
I would certainly not consider it either if I was not right up next to the 30 mile radius of a class B.
Wish I was out farther from the city.
