Aerobatics maneuvers and limitation on older Citabria 7ECA ( Super Decathlon and scouts too )

Hey guys It's me again, your friendly neighbor Citabria RC modeler with a another question,

The Knife Edges Maneuver.

Is the Older Champion Citabria like the 7ECA with the old Champion landing gear rated to do knife edges passed over the runway? ( or any of the Citabrias capable of doing this maneuver ) Before you hit the back button, let me explain why I'm asking. I made a 3D Model on the computer of the older Champion Citabria. This 3D model was imported in to a RC flight simulator on the computer called Real flight. I set of the flight Physic, trying to match a RC Citabria I use to fly. The question arose why I made model to under powered and that the model could not do a Knife Edge pass over the runway. Because of this I was told that my Physic where set up wrong. While this is no big deal because RC modelers tend to over power their models, fly at full throttle, and do maneuvers that real aircraft cant do. Pulse the person using my Model can change ever aspect of the model that they download like wing profile, engine size, and even tail wheel weight. Again no a big deal. What got me going was this comment about " the real plane itself as well as the models of the real plane are known for their ability to knife-edge " This got me thinking if I have even seen one do a Knife Edge pass and the answer is NO. I looked at an old Pilot Magazine I got off E-Bay for the Citabria Add, and looked on the web for aerobatics information or any thing saying that a Citabria could do this maneuver. Again No. So I spend a night going through You Tube looking and watching people doing maneuvers and Not one knife edge pass did I find. I did see one guy do something called a wings over, where he rocked his wing up 90 degrees like starting a Roll and them rocked it back to level.

Oh man look at me, I'm rambling ....OK Is the Full size Citabria set up for Knife edge passes. So I don't leave out the S Decathlons and Scouts flyers. Is your plane set up for Knife edges. I'm planing of making a SD and a Scout for the sim program too.

Let me say thanks in advance for any answers I might get and apologize for not using the search but I still can't get the button to show up in the forum.

I have seen Super D's do something similar to a knife edge pass; however, it isn't nearly as pretty as say a Pitts. The nose has to be really high and the bank is usually at least slightly less than 90 degrees of bank. As for Citabrias, one would probably lose oil and power without inverted systems. Could a 7KCAB do it... it would probably be similar to what the Super D does; however, I haven't ever seen it.

Terry,

The 8KCAB super decathlon POH states extended knife edge flying is not recommended - something to do with engine oil being unable to circulate in this attitude. The manuever you describe below is called a "dutch roll" where the plane rolls from knife edge to opposite knife edge.

Thanks guys for the Answers. Ya Dutch Roll is what I was thinking about when I said Wing over. Is case your wondering what the Model looks like that I made it can be seen at http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b330/PbTerry/Citabria%20RealFlight%20Model/ Or if own the realflight G3.5 or G4 RC flight SIM can you down load it from there forum and the swap page. But why would you use the Sim when you have the real thing :p Lucky :p

Thanks again

Ps. I might be bothering you guys again when I start sctarch building a 1/5 scale Citabria out of Carbon fiber.
