Aerothane paint blending

I'm very close to assembly of 392. The way I see it, you can't shoot the Poly-Spray until you have everything assembled except for the flaps and ailerons. Everything has gap tape. Gap tape between the elevator and horiziontal stabilizer, between the rudder and fin, between the horizontal stab and fuselage and between the wings and fuselage.
I thought about masking off the fuselage-to-flying surfaces gap tape areas and shooting the wings, fuselage and assembled stab while still apart, but I can't help but feel it will be a lot of trouble to blend in the fresh gap-seal Aerothane.
All advice solicited.

I painted a composite experimental (Pulsar III) using aerothane and found blending to be challenging. On one horizontal stab I accidentally brushed against one tip before it cured (hours with aerothane) and tried to touch it up later by masking and repainting just a portion. Much buffing later I can still see the transition. The beauty of aerothane is that it'll look as good ten years after spraying as it did on day one - like it's still wet.

When reassembling my 14-19, I had all of the tail feathers attached(including gap seals) prior to the Poly-Spray(silver) coats. It turned out fine. I finished with Poly-Tone. I think your right about masking for Aerothane. Poly-Tone would be a bit easier for blending out. Some argue that a more consistent and easier paint job is achieved while everything is still apart. Maybe. But, masking for later tape application didn't appeal to me. Tom Robinson

An even bigger problem I see is finding a FBO that will let me paint an airplane in their hangars. The only place I know of is Moontown (3M5) and their hangar space is full.

Don't know if this will work for you but last time I needed to paint a plane (a Stinson) there was a glut of empty warehouse space in my town. I just rented a corner of one for a month - cost me $400.00.
