Anyone have an STC for Clevelands for a Bellanca???

Hi All,
I ordered a Cleveland wheel and brake kit. It is 199-46, described as a retro for Goodyear. The STC furnished is for most models of Cessna from 120 to 182. Are there any STC's around that will cover a 14-13 series? I don't want to do more that a 337, otherwise I will get the Bodels from Skybound which are lower drag anyway.

Yeah, I know, research then buy, not the reverse, but I bit on a 5% coupon from Skygeeks. :)

you could just go to:

http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgSTC.nsf/MainFrame?OpenFrameSet

I think that there are a number of people that have field approvals for Clevelands...and yes that will take a 337, but if you go to the fsdo where some one had a previous approval, you make have better luck...there is no law or regulation against fsdo shopping.

ps - doesn't Larry Rau (blimpy) have a set he wants to sell?

Yes, you can do it by copying somebody's 337.
No problem there.

I have a new in the box set of the same clevelands, and will make you a good price on them.

the biggest "problem" in stalling the clevelands is making a 4130 sleeve to fit over the 1 1/4 inch axle
to "neck it up" to 1 1/2 OD.

there is no standard 4130 tubing with that OD.. but there is with the correct ID,
so you will have to turn it down a little on a metal lathe.

I think some online source had a better selection than AC spruce.

BTW... I am now very happy with my Hayes brakes, and only reason to change I can see
would be a lack of spare parts. I am lucky to have one NOS brake assy for a spare.

I also purchased a set of axles from a Viking.. which are 1 - 1/2" but..
to install them in the existing crusair gear legs, you would have to remove the lower gear legs
and use a Press to remove the sleeve in the bottom of the gear leg.

there is NOT enough meat on the gear leg to use a puller to remove this sleeve.
( been there and gave up before I damaged the gear leg)

Making the push on sleeve is by far the easiest way to install the clevelands.

THEN... you will find that the stock master cylinders are high volume low pressure, and the clevelands are
the other way around. And your options are, use ones from a cruismaster or install something that looks like
the orginals and hope nobody figures it out ( eg short clevelands with reservoirs built in - also not from ac spruce but available).

All in all a waste of time, compared to fixing your hayes so they work.

Not quite that simple. You'll still need to get it field approved. You can try to use someone else's field approval as rationale but there's no guarantee. Best to approach the FSDO before laying out any money.

I defer to Doc's experience and knowledge on the 337 thing..and Larry L's.

Guess I will get my baptism by fire this winter when I try to get 337's for
air cleaner, maybe oil filter if the STC isn't correct for my cruisair.

Maybe I should just pray for the santa-god to bring me a Cessna.??

Larry R.,
Apologies for not responding sooner. Been dealing with life and Blue Screens on my 12 year old XP install.
Still not sure how I want to go, order's on hold. The Goodyears were always great brakes. But parts are the prob now with these as well. Santa didn't find any bargain Bodells yet either.

The Goodyear equipped 14-13 uses a 1 1/2" axle and high pressure masters. So the Clevelands would just be bolt-on and no master cylinder change either. Email is ronmarks (at) gmail.com BTW

Download, burn and install http://xubuntu.org/ and be done with 'blue screens' forever... ;-)
Help provided here if necessary!

Ron, you are fortunate ! If all you have to do is bolt on the clevelands, with no changes to axles or masters,
then why not! They are the most common brakes, parts are everywhere, and people like them.

I don't know anything about goodyears.. I think Larry L has them.

I'm going to make the conversion after all. Since the parts are paid for.
If/when I get the FAA 's approval.
