Battery location for aerobatic on 7GCBC

I am looking to buy a 7GCBC to do cross country and basic aerobatic. I possibly found a 2001,
but the W&B is off with 2 persons. I heard battery may be the cause, if the location is behind the back seat!!
Is there a modification applicable? What would be the cost?
Any advise...

The actual W&B is 1304.83 lbs and the moment is 18255.75
I weight 190 lbs and the instructor weight 170 lbs with 20 gal of fuel we are at GW

The results gave me 1800 lbs with a moment of 29980.
I think this is good for normal category but not aerobatic!

That an empty weight CG of 14 inches. That's a little abnormal for newer aircraft. A 2001 7GCBC is usually more in the 12.25 to 12.75 range. You have a serial number?

Ok, left the factory as N119PC
Hmm, left with a tail wheel weight of 93 lbs. So, yeah, your right, its a little aft.

Might consider weighing it again to make sure there was no snafu.
Otherwise, its a good candidate for putting in a firewall mounted battery. A somewhat daunting job, but far from impossible. Worst part is welding in the bracket on the pilot side of the firewall.

Much less stress. but less effective is a Hawker Odyssey battery, reducing weight by 9 lbs there.

I was just going to ask if the Hawker was approved for the GCBC. Is it just me, or is 1300Lb empty kind of porky as it is? I don't remember what the new production one I've worked on is, but my 1970 is 1135lb.

Mr. Jerry Jr,

Thanks a lot for the info. I wish you Joyeux Noël et une Bonne année (Merry Christmas and Happy New Year) from Québec.

I'm curious like Oxcuser, WHEN and WHY 7GCBC weight went up from 1135 lbs to 1304 lbs?

Who can do the modification?
How the aircraft remains certified( Service bulletin, STC,...)?

J-P

1300 is a touch porky but not bad. High Country Explorers are usually around there with the 180 HP. 1260-1280 would be more expected.

You are talking a gap from early 1960's to now. Over the years, little things like equipment and plushness add up. Seems like as soon as you engineer a few pounds out, someone finds a way to add twice that back in. I really don't know how it could have ever been 1135 lbs honestly. Maybe on paper, but 1175-1200 would be more realistic for a Bellanca vintage. I've seen someone strip 90 lbs out of an 8KCAB once and it was extremely Spartan (though quite functional) and it was still above 1250.

Hey Osxuser, is 1135 wt. with oil? My 69 7 kcab is 1242 with oil.

With or without is only a difference of 16lb, but it should be with unusable oil. No Skylight, both seats are fixed back.

Yes, my 1970 7GCBC on wheels. Was weighed in 2001 when it was imported from Canada. Since then I've removed the wheelpants and brackets, running the heavier double puck brakes, Basic VFR panel, KX155, KT79, Lightest starter available (Hartzell solenoid style) and Plane Power alternator on the O-320-A2B.

I'm planning on stripping out much of the interior, running straight plywood floorboards without carpet, and installing a baggage door. I pride myself on keeping my airplanes as light as possible. Remove all unnecessary wiring and such.

Osxuser,

How is the weight distribute on the main gears and the tail wheel?
Is your tail wheel close to 93lbs?
Where is your battery?

Osxuser, that's one light bird, I just don't give fat chicks rides.(kidding). Your new weight should say with oil or not. My guess is they did not bother to drain the oil before weighing.
PS. going on diet 2014

I don't have the weighed W&B report from when it was imported, but my moment on the current W&B is 13,150. Sounds very very forward of compared to the 2001. Makes me want to recheck everything.

Mr.Robert,
The tail wheel weight I was talking, is actually the weight on the tail wheel during the W&B not the weight of the wheel itself.
On the plane I am looking it was 93 lbs. Make the W&B off for aerbatic with an instructor in the back seat!

Not having the current weight and bal would drive me nuts. Also you can't figure nothing out.
Merry Christmas to all !
