Carb. Temp probe.

I have a problem. My carb is a Marvel Shebler model MA-3SPA. I sent it to Florida for overhaul and ADs about three years ago (earlier in my project) and now there doesn't seem to be anywhere for my carb temp probe. However, on the front of the carb directly above the "data plate" is a plug.
None of the A&Ps here know if that plug comes out for the carb temp probe.
I don't want to take it out and find that it was holding something inside the carb or what're else could go wrong. Can anyone tell me if it is safe to remove the plug and if that is actually where the carb temp probe goes?
Thank you,
Gary

Gary,
There is nothing behind that plug. If your probe will fit in there it would be a satisfactory location as long as the total length from the middle of the threads to the end of the probe does not exceed 1" or you'll bind up the throttle. An alternate location would be in the distribution zone, near the opening for your manifold pressure line.
