Charlotte Airport 14-9L

I know many have seen this plane hanging in the airport, but I got to look at it real close a couple weeks ago, what a nice little aircraft! To bad it is hanging there instead of flown, but this way everyone gets to see it.
 
This airplane was a flyer until Karl Ascherfeld donated it to the museum. I have flown in this "Junior" with Karl some years ago. He tried to sell it but no one was interested. With a week's work it could be in the air
once again.

I was wondering what the little fan was for, at least you never have to worry about not getting enough wind to make it work.
 
The three 14-9L aircraft were delivered to State Airline of Charlotte, with the five cylinder Lenape LM5 of 95hp.
