I have put together my check list for my plane by compiling all the check lists I could find and things from my training. Is it to big to short, Additions or omissions. I just got my license and my plane is finished with its annual. Just want to get it right since the responsibility rests on me now.
73 8kcab 150 cs Thanks
Looks like I need a check list to send posts. Here is the check list.

Some discussion points:

DECATHLON 8KCAB - mine is a '79 Std 8KCAB so there may be differences that I am unaware of.

PRE-START CHECK
Brake on/Parking OFF - personally, I never use the park brake whenever I am in the airplane with the engine running.
Do you have adjustable seats?
Dip the tanks?

NORMAL START
Circuit Breakers ? - I converted mine from fuses to circuit breakers
Controls FREE/CLEAR - Check that the passenger is not so fat that you can't get full elevator deflection.
Alt. Static ? DOWN - alt static is to break an instrument
Mixture IN 1- 2 or 3 out - too long - I just push it in and out "until fuel pressure is indicated"
Stick Back - good - too many people don't do this
“CLEAR PROP” ? - I say "stand clear - starting" for the benfit of anyone who may be outside near the prop - "clear prop" may not be readily understood by a non-aviator
Oil Press. STABILIZED - shut down if no oil pressure within 30 seconds (reminds of the next discussion on which oil to use)
Mixture LEAN - I don't lean the small Lycomings on the ground

COCKPIT PREFLIGHT
Fuel Pump ON - I don't use the fuel pump for take-off and landing - per the FAA approved Flight Manual it is only used for priming and if the engine-driven pump fails
“CAPS SECURE” - can't see these from inside the airplane

“LIGHT CAMERA ACTION”
L*anding Light ON - landing lights don't seem to last very long so I save it for when I really want to use it

NORMAL TAKE-OFF
VY72 mph to 1000AGL - book VY of 66 kts for mine - I use 65 - 70

-MAX. PREFORM-
SHORT FIELD OBSTACLE
VX 65 mph to 50 feet
Obstacle Climb 57 mph - my airplane stalls at 46 kts IAS. I have flown other Std Decathlons which indicate the same however I have flown a 150 C/S which did stall at close to the book stall speed - let's see 53 mph CAS = about 47 mph IAS which is 41 kts IAS. I keep at least 1.2 times stall speed for take-off - interesting that Australia many years ago came up with its own take-off and landing charts using higher reference sppeds than given by the non-approved POM

Thanks for the help I have already started to edit my check list. I will be taking your suggestions and putting them into the check list.
