CHT guage installation

I'm not confident leaning my '78 GCAA and hoping a CHT guage will help. What cylinder is generally the hottest and the likely location for the CHT probe? JP

Hi jp, for leaning you will want an EGT gage as they react almost instantly where as CHT takes a long time to show and by the time it does damage could have already occurred.

FYI-

Suggest you read page 3 of the linked Lycoming Key Reprint for the official leaning advice.

The carburetored engine fuel distribution is so uneven that EGT's will vary widely and are essentially useless for leaning.
