I have a 1974 Citabria, could anyone tell me if I am supposed to leave the tin faring attachment plates on the plane when removing the wheel pants? Also, are there any pros or cons to taking off the wheel pants? I do fly in and out of grass strips and was worried about damaging them.

I also leave the plate on. I have had both wheel pants to crack both on grass strips. Both cracked right above the gear leg, from the opening towards the top as much as 3" long. When I repaired them I added extra layers of fiberglass on the inside. Also added extra layers around the bottom edges to help with vibration. Works good last a long time. ( I hope )
