Cowling Anti Chafe tape 2005 GCAA

The anti- chafe tape on the cowling has worn through in a spot and the cowling has started to chafe on the air frame. Can I remove the old tape and replace it or should I patch it with a piece? I am afraid if I try to remove the old tape and replace it that it might take off paint. Also where do I find the clear one inch tape?

Aircraft Spruce, Van's Aircraft and flyboyaccessories.com all have anti chafe tape, but Spruce is the only one with 1" tape.
