Cruisair fuel tank gauges

Both fuel floats have sunk in my Cruisair and need to be replaced, Aircraft spruce has a universal sender unit for $25.45, would this work inplace of the old sender unit? The old floats are bass and have been repaired to many times for me to trust again.

Your Cruiseair gage is 6 volt unless it has been changed. Stewart Warner made them. They no longer make them. Unless someone out there came up with something else you will have to change out senders and gage. Aircraft Spruce carries a complete set that will work. It was 3 yrs ago when I changed mine, so I don't remember which one. I remember they were ajustable. This weekend I will look and see if there is a name one the gauge.

Randy, Thank's for your reply on the fuel gauge, mine is the stewart warner unit. Please let me know which one you have now. Thank's Darrell

I know this post was while ago but just for the record.... It is correct that the gages were 6 volt because the cars at the time were 6 volt. The aircraft manufactures used these 6 volt gages and added a resister to the circuit. Now you can use the current 12 SW gage and not use the resister. Most aircraft have had this done long ago and the resister is long gone by now. The sender does not care if it is used with a 6 volt or 12 volt gage.

Years ago the float on my cruisair turned into a sink. I was working with a friend to fix it when he noted that the float was identical to one he had pulled out of his 47 ford (or was it Chevy) pickup. He had the discarded part (the float was perfect-the rheostat was dead) and it had clearly come out of the same factory as the Bellanca float. I can't recall if the rest of the sender was identical, but if you need a float, you might try a auto junkyard.

Now both my floats have problems, thanks for the comments here. I'll look at them and see what the problem/possible fix is.

The wound resistor on the back of the SW gauge isn't necessary? I broke mine and it sure would be good news to hear I didn't need it :D
Y'all let me know, OK?

NAPA has them. The last one I got was from here, it was cheaper then NAPA. It is a part number 82303.
