cruise power settings

Would like some comments on cruise operations and numbers for 14-19-2 Cont 470K. I have limited experience with cross country flying in this airplane and find 22/22, 23/23 setting not very efficeint nor airspeed stable. What has been the real world experiences and recommended operational setting.

I just brought my 14-19-2 back from Washington state to Oklahoma, at twelve thousand feet I was running about 19 or 20 inches manifold pressure and 2300 rpm. I flew this until I landed in Denver and averaged about 11.5 per hour. I was indicating 160 MPH at twelve thousand feet. Now from Denver to OKla I only got about eighty five hundred feet then dropped to sixty five I ran it 23/23 and burned about thirteen an hour. Still indicating about 160 mph. The speed seemed to be very stable and it performed great at both altitudes. I have noticed the wing does seem to work better at higher altitudes like my 14-13-3.....Greg
