Hi Guys,

Can anyone with practical experience tell me what the main differences between the 150 hp Citabria 7gcaa and the 115hp model is? I would like to know fuel usage, payload and performance realistically. I have a 150hp model and want to buy the 115 hp model to save on fuel costs etc.

The only difference is the HP, and battery location. I have a 1976 7ECA I would like to sell. It represents itself as new condition. It was restored by ACA and has 416 hours.

I hav an O-235 in my Champ and I personally don't think you will save enough to make yourself happy. The fuel burn will only be 1-2 gph difference and less power. I have a 172 also and I can fly it with nearly the same fuel burn as I get in the Champ. Personally I'd keep the 150hp and just pull back on the throttle.

Thanx guys - one of the reasons for my thinking is also that the 115hp citabria is registered non certified (although maintained by qualified amo`s) in south africa and mine is certified which means a lot more rediculous costs involved. Thanx for the info!!

One more thing to consider is empty weight/useful load. It is my belief that 'generally' a 7ECA will have more useful load than the 150 horse models because the engine weighs less. This can be significant.
