My 1970 7ECA Citabria is in the process of being restored. Upon disassembly of the elevator I discovered that on the locator pin that locates the left side of the elevator into the right side has some wear to it, similar to wear on a crankshaft. In addition to this there is a crack in the locator pin. Question is, why would there be a crack or any wear shown on that part because there is no rotation around this pin. Bigger question.Why would there be a crack since there should be no stress on this part at all as all of the rotation is on the elevator hinges?
