flying wire tension

Years ago, Mcwhyte told me......." no tighter than a low bass tone." Most flying wires fail at the jamb nut due to excess tension or harmonic flutter. Make sure the streamlined wires are aligned into the relative wind. Also, make sure the stabilizer remains level as you bring up the tension.

Check the -3 service manual and it tells how to adjust the wires. run a string through the hinge line and tighten the wires ti maintain the alignment of the string, neat trick and the wires sound low bass E. Lynn

I don't have the blasted -3 manual but my IA tuned my wires to an A note. We used the dial tone on a land line (a perfect 440 hz A note) and I broke a wire after they were all tuned. I've got an old Fender bass around here somewhere. Next time we'll tune to the E note and see what happens :p
