Franklin 165 oil temperature

Since the Cruisair is new to me, I'm just a bit curious about oil temperatures.

At about +7 degrees C, I am seeing close to 190 degrees oil temperature
At about -10 degrees C, I am running about 150 degrees

Can this be considered normal? It seems a bit hot compared to what I'm used to (a GO435 lycoming)

This is pretty normal for the Franklin/Bellanca installation. The oil temperature should be taken leaving the oil cooler. When Franklin was still in business, they told me the high limit was 235F out of the oil cooler. In the summer, during extended climb, you'll see 100-110C on those old three in one gauges...still ok. I have found that 100-105 IAS is the best climb speed for oil cooling in a Franklin Cruisair.

the confusing thing is that the max allowable oil temp is off the scale
on the 3 in 1 instrument.

I have only seen it that hot in mine when the ambient temp at altitude is 80+
which you don't see too often
