Franklin powered Cessnas???

I knew that some of the early Cessna 172 had the Franklin 180 and possibly the 220 in the type certificate, but I didnt know that Cessna 170A/B had the 165 in the type cert. I remember seeing one for sale years ago, and figured that it was put in with a One Time STC, but maybe it was original? Just another little blip in the history of our engines. _____Grant.
 
The 180/220 installation in the Cessna 170/172/175 series was an STC marketed by Franklin in the late '60s and early '70s. The 150/165 installation in the 170, though listed in the TDCS, was a non-factory installation,
developed by a flying service in Maine.

Jack Gillette, in Santa Fe, NM, has a 220 powered C175. It really climbs out at his private field elevation of 5300 feet. A great engine in his opinion.
