I'm looking at possibly buying a Citabria and am curious as to what some of you are paying for insurance and which company you went with for coverage.

I have around 360 hours total time with only 13+ tailwheel hours, all of it in a Decathalon.

Thanks

There is a thread on insurance on the Citabria pilots group on Yahoo about insurance in the last couple of days. Search Yahoo Groups for Citabria pilots.

I purchased my insurance through AOPA, full coverage - hull and liability with $200 deductable. It was $1200 per year for coverage of $45,000 I had about 200 TT and 8 hr in type, 12 hr. tailwheel. The requirements were 10 hours in type and instructors sign off.
The 73 Citabria is hangered and that makes a difference in the hull insurance price.

Thanks Morris, Is it ground and taxi hull or "in flight" as well? Does AOPA use more tha one provider?

Joe
The coverage is $100 deductable for each of the following "Not-in-Motion", "Not-in-flight", and "Flight"

I thought that this was pretty good considering my low taildragger time. EAA and Avemco were much higher, with more time in type required, like 50 hours.

I am coming up on a 2nd. year renewal and am going to ask for a discount since I have no claims and 180 hours in type now.

Best regards
Morris

That is a very good deal. Is the 1 million liabilty smooth or does it have a $100,000 per person limit?

Joe
I do not know what "smooth" means in insurance talk.
My insurance is $1M for Aircraft Liability single limit for Bodily Injury and Property damage including passengers.
Passenger Bodily injury limited within the single limit to $100,000. each passenger
Medical Expense including crew $5,000. each passenger.

Morris

Morris,
Smooth means there is not a 100,000 limit per passanger meaning the whole 1 million apllies.
Thanks for your help
Joe
