Leaking Duracell Batteries

Warning to all...
I had some reception issues with my one year old Lightspeed headset recently. When I checked the batteries,
I found both Duracell batteries had leaked crap all over the inside of the receptacle. They were dated 2022, so not old at all. I just changed the AA Duracells in a weather station I have.....THE SAME ISSUE. I then googled "leaking Duracell batteries" and found that many are having issues with recent production batteries. So be forwarned.

Interesting!
Thanks for the heads up, when I was still flying with Faro Headsets, the factory recommended only Duracell Coppertop's due to more reliable voltage. Or so they said.

Dan, I've had same problems with the Duracell's. I contacted them and they replaced my expensive flashlight and also gave me coupons for more batteries. the squeaking wheel. I was really peeved about the flashlight so they made good. Lynn

I guess I should do the same, Lynn...and complain to the factory. Just type in "leaking Duracell Batteries" and you'll find a lot of problems. I think this is a recent production issue as I've never had a problem in the last 20 years. I've had to clean leakage and corrosion out of several flashlights. I've got a couple ELTs that have them and I'm going to check them early.

I've had a few cases of leaking Duracells over the years, but they are still the most leak proof ones I have used that were in a storage situation. If the battery was in constant use, like a head set or intercom, I have not had any problems. It's when the sit without use(or inspection!?) that I see problems. The ELT on my (ex)Cruisair had Duracell D cells that were suppose to be good for 10yrs. Still had to inspect the ELT at annual, so hadn't been a problem, but was always looking leakers just in case!
Had an Artex (I think) ELT battery leak, and they replaced the ELT. Love it when mfgs take responsibility for their product!
