Mine is due again next month. Been with Chartis for years and dont have any complaints but they've had a falling out with my broker. It's always good to look around so, who are you guys using? reccomendations?
I figured I gather some intel..

I have Chartis through Facer (800-727-2147) without problems for many years. 1-1/2 years ago I had hail damage and it was taken care of professionally - covered 100%.

There is an old post at:

http://www.bellanca-champion.typeclubs.org/BB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=491&hilit=insurance

IT is 3 pgs long, but has some interesting stuff on it. Would like to see anything new on this post.

I am insured by Chartis thru Facer. Have had pretty good luck with them. $1194 for $30K hull (way over insured!) and 1 million liability. I do the wings program, though don't remember if that helps. It did for AOPA insurance, but they won't insure Cruisairs!

ASEL, ASES, G, IR

I have AOPA (Starr Aviation). $1523 for $46,800 full insurance no deductable. Keeps going up every year and the value of small planes keep going down----only in America land of O.
Lynn the crate

I'll give Facer a shout and see what they say.

Chartis paid when I totaled my -2 two years ago without any hassle at all and I used them for my Stinson for 12 years.. I thought I'd just get some input from my peeps before I sign up again.

Thanks!

I would also suggest talking to Insurance Coverage Inc a broker that checked several underwriters and ended up insuring my Cruisemaster for $42,000 at a premium of $1,851 through US Speciality. This was for two pilots without complex/high performance endorsements and 0 hours in type. My partner only has about 100 or so hours and I have about 450. As a pre req the required a cpmplex/high performance endorsement prior to solo flight i.e. minimum FAA requirements. Brandy at ICI was great to work with. I highly recommend them. Their phone number is (205) 822-8358

The -3 is insured by US Specialty for $26k hull / $1m liability for $1120 this year. It's gone down every year since we bought the plane, but I suspect that mostly has to do with the fact that I started with 0 retract time and less than 300 hours total time and have been flying quite a bit since then. I forget the exact amount quoted, but increasing the hull to $30k+ after this year's panel upgrades are done will have a minimal impact on cost.

The only thing I don't like is that it took a bit of negotiation to get a rider included which covers unnamed flight instructors, since I'm going to try to do my commercial in the near future. The limits are still pretty high (25 hours time in type, 500 hours retract), but that was at least good enough to cover the two flight instructors I'm likely to use for my commercial and not have them named in the policy (which means not having to ask them for hours and all that every year).

Facer - US Specialties 14-13-2 250 hour pilot 145 in tail draggers, no retract time, or logged time in type.
$1170 a year if I remember right. 25 K hull and I million liability.

Also no solo coverage untill I get tw endorsement, retract endorsement, and signoff in type.
(never mind I am grandfathered in for conventional gear per FAR).

Nancy Bruno at Facer has been very easy to work with.

Capt. Larry

I misrepresented what I pay for US specialties insureance on the -2

$ 1170 yr for 25K hull 1million liability through facer. previously posted $1700 which was wrong.
deductable moving is maybe 2500 bucks.

very high minimums for other pilots...

not bad for low time pilot with minimal time in bellanca .

I was paying $1159.00 with Chartis. 40K/1M
As it turns out, Chartis sent my name to other brokers who then contacted me so, problem solved
Since I just added 18K of avionics my rate will probably creep up a little.

Kudos! you've been spoiled by the -3 experience before being tainted by others

That's interesting. I've never had any limit due to flight instruction. I could see it maybe if it was to be used for private pilot instruction but even if you're doing IFR you are still PIC. Chartis has no mention of flight instruction exclusions or such. Non-owner pilots have to have the same type/retract number as yours but that was never a problem for me since I didnt see myself letting other's fly the plane without me along, and the couple of pilots I know what I would allow it have WAY more hours than I.

This discussion about insurance has been great. I appreciate everyone's input. Heck, the average owner at the airport would more likely share his experience with Viagra than talk about his insurance policy :D
