This could be great news for many, hope it doesn't take forever for Congress to approve it.

Call me cynical, but remember what happened with the proposal to abolish the 3rd class medical for certain airplanes? It was originally proposed to have no medical requirement beyond a Driver's License. At the last minute Sen. Feinstein said she wouldn't let it through unless it had a medical requirement; thus the "Basic Med" requirement.
I hope this is not used as an opportunity to add a medical requirement to the Sport Pilot certificate.
 
Well it will take a long time, the FAA moves very very slowly. However my understanding is that this is different because the FAA has announced the FAA is doing this. Last time with the medical deal, the FAA refused to do it so it went to congress, and they screwed it up. This doesn't have anything to do with congress.
