Lubricating the u-joints on the landing gear of a 1314.

Dan, My wings are ready to go on so this is the time to lubricate the U-joints in the gears, however, try as I might, I couldn't do any better than oiling them externally. I guess I don't have the right equipment but that little ball is tough! I couldn't move it at all. Suggestions are welcome.

If the u-joint that you are trying to lubricate is part 9838 (the one that broke on my left gear on landing), I am inspecting the replacement under a magnifying glass and I don't see any way to lube that thing other than squirting oil all over it, which may not be a good idea...

I'll ask the question to the mechanic that will be repairing it, he is an old (about to retire) school guy that apparently really knows about this things.

I'd like to know too why mine broke...

If they are stiff and dirty, soak them in diesel or gasoline for a day or two. Clean thoroughly and re-soak in motor oil for a day or two. Move them around a bit when they are soaking.
