main gear springs

What is the height of the main gear springs?? I hear 6.5 inches. New springs are rather expensive through the factory. Does anyone have a source for identical springs through another source (I'm sure the factory doesn't build springs-they must be bought through an industrial supplier). Also, could weak/short springs be shimmed by a little bit to maintain height??Peter
 
I have three of them. Thought I had bid on all 5 but when I called 2 were gone already. The Bellanca club has the specs on the springs. If you take the specs to a commercial spring shop they can match them up. That is what I did when I restored my Cruiseair in 2001. I have lost the specs. :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
Here are spring specs. I found: 6.25" extended length, 12 coils, constant rate spring, 5/16" wire, AMS 6451A material, O.D. of spring 1 %9/16" I got this of a guys 14-19-2 site. Ken
