My Aileron Wake Up Call

Decided to check what size washers I need to add to snug up my loose aileron brackets.

In doing so I gave a closer look to the sloppy aileron hinge pins I've put off fixing for the year I've
owned the Cruisiar.

I discovered one of the U shaped hinge brackets broken on both sides !

I am grateful for the kick in the arse supplied by the recent B-C Contact article about aileron flutter.

It's one thing to live with a certain amount of wear.. but clearly this is something I should have fixed
Last Year.

Anyway I am taking it as a wake-up call.

So off both ailerons come.

I Needed to do that to get at the brackets inside the wings, anyway.
At the same time I will do whatever it takes to get all the slop out of the Hinge Pins.
I think there is a way to re-bush them.

We'll inspect using dye penetrant on all the U brackets.

Plus, I get to learn how to patch fabric... after I replace the busted U bracket.

The failure was the outboard hinge on the left aileron - right where the ears the pin moves in attaches to the
base of the U bracket. Hair line fractures... I felt as much as saw. Side play made it happen.

Grant will probably have a used U bracket.

Well.. false alarm, nothing was broken.
will make a new bracket due to worn hinge pin holes.

bigger deal was hinge being loose on the spar. It snugged right up

Using my RX magnifying glasses next time , and cleaning away the old grease !!
