Need advise about fuel gauge '65' 7ECA

The fuel gauge on my '65' 7ECA seem stuck at "less than zero". My mechanic thinks the ball float may have leaked. How is this replaced or fixed? Also, if someone has the time, could you please explain how one fuel gauge can measure the amount of fuel in two tanks (2x18 gals)? and how does one curved vent on top of the wing, vent both tanks?, and lastly, with the one vent pointed into the slip stream, are the tanks equally "pressureized in flight? Thank-you, Harland Verrill, Flint, MI N11095

Well, I'm going to keep it fairly short..... "just does"... Just kidding. The tanks are connected through a fuel line just above your head where it is also connected to that fuel vent you mentioned. As far as your broken guage, well they doesnt work all that great when they are working. Id use a small mirror and see how she looks. But either way, its a pain to get to for replacement. My fuel guage is a wooden dowl rod and a watch. Your right though about it questioning accuracy with only one tank having the gauge. In flight if your carrying some rudder or other wise uncordinated you'll get more fuel in one or the other.

Correction:

The tanks are connected through a [vent line] just above your head where it is also connected to that [vent] you mentioned.

Wouldn't want people to think we are in danger of getting drenched in that expensive (and volatile) go-juice!
