New Landing Gear Bolts for a 7KCAB

I have the old style landing gear U bolts on my 1968 7KCAB and I have a few questions.

1. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations on replacing them with the new type?

2. Where can you get the new ones and what is their cost?

3. Are modifications necessary or are they a direct replacement?

4. About how labor is involved in their replacement?

Thanks for the help,
Dave

Dave,

We changed out the bolts on our 74 7ECA last winter, I don't remember the cost(it wasn't much) and we got them from ACA.
They are easy to replace, you can get to them by raising the carpet over that area, removing the old and installing the new, no modification required, and not much labor involved.
When we removed the old ones we discovered that they were elongated and would have failed some time in the not to distant future.

I replaced mine on my 7GCBC last winter. They are no trouble to replace, I did have to bend the brake lines a little to keep the lines from rubbing the metal bar on the bolt setup. Mine did show some wear on one bolt. I purchased them from ACA they were not real expensive, certainly worth the piece of mind. Has your inner bolts been replaced, they are suppse to be changed every 500 hrs. You do have to cut two small holes to replace them.

Woodie and Ron,
Thanks for the information, I thought I remember an article in one of the club's magazines, does anyone one remember what issue it was in?

Dave

Dear Dave:

This has been covered in B-C Contact! many times; the latest was in October 2004 (issue 14-4) page 22. I strongly suggest buying the through-bolt from ACA, as this is not standard hardware and they are quite reasonable.

Regards,
