New Wings with Aluminum Spars

Hi all,

I own a 1970's Citabria 7GCBC for two years now and I bought her already with new wings installed. I discovered that it will be possible to increase the gross weight and I got the paperwork from ACA (it's an flight manual supplement and the drawings). But now my German A&P asks on which regulation basis the wings are build in. I said that it's similar to an STC but acts more like a replacement part (see website ACA). But it was not very satisfying him. He said, that it would be possible when there is one Citabria in Europe with the new wings already properly installed.
So, is there someone in Europe who has an Citabria with new wings and an documented increased gross weight? It would be very kind if you let me know how the gross weight increase works.

Best Regards

Markus

I would call ACA 262-534-6315, they may be able to help you. Or you can email a question to them by going to their website:
http://www.americanchampionaircraft.com/about-us.html you can send an email question from that site on the right side of the page.

Not an expert, but the wings are built by the factory that holds the type certificate for the airplane. The wings are certified exactly the same way as the rest of the airplane, they are just replacement factory part assemblies. ACA should definitely be able to assist you with this, as the wings adhere to the TCDS granted by the FAA, and through reciprocal agreement, EASA... I cannot see how your A&P is questioning the legitimacy of the wings, or the gross weight increase that accompanies their installation - it's all part of the TCDS (type certificate data sheet).

Thanks to Jim Parker and w. becker for your response. I wrote a mail to ACA and asked for help. I really hope that they are able to assist me.
Best regards
Markus
