I own a 1967 7ECA Citabria with the old no bounce gear installed. The struts were rebuilt years ago with Safe Air Repair Parts but I only have about 1/2 inch travel on the struts until they bottom out. Is this normal??? What could I do???

I have seen this 7ECA and it looks like it should be driving down the streets of LA with loud music coming from it. Are there any spacers that can be added to raise it? If not should he get some 20" wheels with low profile tires?

Ron,

Take a look at this site, it has info on the standard gear but all drawing of the no bounce.

Sounds like 1/2 inch of strut showing is low but the most I see is 3 fingers. The springs might have taking a set this was a problem with some of the replacement springs that should have been completely compressed and then the ends ground to the proper length by the manufacture.

With the airplane setting outside lift up at the wing strut and then let it drop should have some cushion if not then you might need to service the oelo for hydraulic fluid.

First go to the site below and read alittle then you might see if you really have a problem.

Will check on a picture or two.

Thanks Mike,
I ended up rebuilding both struts using new oleo springs as well as new HIGH ENERGY Taxi Springs from UNIVAIR. What a difference. The airplane sits up real nice now and really handles better on the runway. Again thanks for you help.
