Oil Temperature Gauge

My oil temperature gauge died a few weeks ago so I had it replaced. The new one will not work at all for about 20 minutes, then works fine for the rest of the flight and subsequent flights while the engine is warm. No other anomolies or problems in the airplane. Any ideas?

What make is the new gauge? I replaced my old SW (I believe) with a Scott gauge. Both are the mechanical type with the sensor bulb and capillary tube. The new one does exactly what you describe.

You may have to replace the sensor bulb and tube with Scott to make the resistance compatable with the Scott gauge. I have found this when replacing the SW with Rochester gauges.

I replaced the whole thing too. I don't think replacing the bulb is an option. I am guessing the old ones were filled with mercury and the new ones are filled with a more politically correct fluid! :D
