old magnetos

My O-435A has one magneto that is dropping rpm considerably. I am going to have to have it serviced. I am going to send this one in and have heard that these old "lunchbox" mags are great when timed right and have no AD's on them. I was curious, though, if there was ever a problem with servicing them, is there another magneto that could replace these? I am not considering it, just wondering what happens if these ever crap out for good. Thanks.

Mike, your engine can use TCM SF6LN-8 mags or S6LN-20. Nice and pricey. Lynn the crate

For service, send the mag to Savage Magneto, Hayward, CA.
Make sure the points are in good condition, all contacts are clean and bright, clean the "finger" contacts. Check the harness and clean and gap the plugs before removing the mag. Put ONE drop of oil on the cam follower felt when you check the points.
