Paint at top of windshield

OK- I don't get it. I like the look of the painted area at the top of the windshield, but Do you just mask off this area and shoot Aerothane on it? Do I prime it first with Epoxy Primer? Does it get some sort of fabric there beforehand?
I'm just confused :?

Dave,
Just mask and paint. Use vinyl tape for edges. make sure all the edges are down. One light coat, let dry for about 30 min., then one medium coat.
You are done.

Hi All,
I have noticed that the visibility out the front of my 14-19-2 is already a bit narrow especially when compared to my old Stinson. From the picture it looks like the factory approach of painting the top of the windscreen makes it even more narrow....

Jack- that part of the windshield is obscured by a wood fuselage former that screws to the top of the steel frame crossmember at the top of station 3 (view from the pilot's seat). If you do it right, you shouldn't see it. One nice thing- it covers that area where the wood former screws down making your Bellanca look just a little nicer 8)

For a minute I thought that was my plane.. but it is 380 not 360.
Interesting antenna installations.. there is a vhf whip in the middle of the cowl... where my airplane has a feed through insulator for a wire that went up to the mast on the cabin top and then to the tail.

then they have another feedthru on top of the cabin for the wire to the mast.
mucho drag.

I am still looking for an original cabin top mast with mounting hardware.

Paint the top of the windshield... hmmm.

I'm trying out the non-ground plane antennae in 392:

I also have the older antennae that came with 392 (not original), so I have a backup plan just in case these don't do the job.

Having parted out a number of Cruisairs, and a few newer Bellancas, I have found fiberglass trim pieces that go over the fabric at the top of the windshield, and go a little way down into the windshield area. I always assumed it was to make sure the air didnt have a way to get under the front of the fabric at the top of the windshield. It also made the seam more water proof. ______Grant.
